Ilok, the easternmost town in Croatia situated on the Danube River, has a unique terroir with ideal conditions for vine cultivation, which were recognized in prehistoric, antic, Roman and Medieval times. Today, Ilok has a thousand year old vine cultivation and winemaking tradition, and Iločki Podrumi (Ilok Wine Cellars) are continuing this tradition. 990 hectares of their vineyards spread over the undulating plateaus of western slopes of Fruška Gora Mountain heading towards the Danube, and annually produce about 4 million liters of wine. Iločki Podrumi are a joint-stock company, and the major stakeholder is Mr. Juraj Mihaljević. With its unique terroir, varietals, state of the art technology and continuous quality improvements, Iločki Podrumi are the main driver of development of Ilok as a wine destination of Srijem vineyards, Croatian Danube region and this part of Europe. Its wines have earned multiple awards, recognitions and certificates. In its range of wines, Iločki Podrumi offer different types of wines: from classic ones (Graševina, Kapistran), through selected ones (Graševina, Traminac [Gewürztraminer], Chardonnay, Rhein Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Frankovka Rose, Kapistran Crni) and premium quality wines (Velika Berba, Graševina, Traminac, Chardonnay, Kapistran Crni, Frankovka) to Principovac appellation wines (Graševina, Traminac, Chardonnay) and wines with special attributes (Traminac: late harvest, selected harvest, selected berries harvest, selected dried-berries harvest, ice wine harvest). Iločki Podrumi have a rich tourist offer as well. Principovac Castle was built in 1864 as a summer residence of the noble family Odescalchi who stayed there during hunting and grape harvest seasons, and today it serves as a restaurant with a rich gourmet offer. Principovac summer residence offers accommodation in five luxurious and modern ☆☆☆☆apartments, and one deluxe suite. All rooms are located on a hill, surrounded by vineyards, and the country estate offers a variety of additional facilities for recreation and sports activities. There is also a tourist resort and restaurant “Stari Podrum”, wine facility which is a legacy and an indication of a very long tradition of growing grapes and producing wine. The true attraction of this tourist resort is revealed in two wine cellars from the 15th and 18th centuries and the superb cuisine offered by its restaurant.
